Dear Sumaya,

Your name means high above -

after the first female martyr of Islam.

She was scorched by the heat of Mecca,

tied between two camels, and impaled 

with a spear in the most private part of her body.

Thousands of years later on Aug 28, 2021,

you were killed in Kabul by a US drone 

while playing in your front yard. 

You were just two years old.  

Your life mattered.  

Sumaya was one of seven children killed in a U.S. drone strike in Kabul. The Pentagon later admitted the strike had been a mistake, a result of faulty intelligence.
